Diversity Visa Lottery - US Green Card Lottery
The US Diversity Visa Lottery, commonly known as the Green Card Lottery for the USA, was introduced for the purpose of adding Diversity to the United States of America. The benefits of the Diversity Visa Lottery, or Green Card Lottery, is that it will allow those who qualify the opportunity to apply for lawful permanent residency in the USA. Lawful permanent residency means the individual ( and any immediate family members ) will be able to live and work in the United States of America without any further immigration restrictions.
You can apply for the Green Card Lottery one time every year, but only 50,000 successful applicants are selected every year.
Each year the US selects approximately 90,000 DV Lottery applications (those that meet the qualifying criteria) in order to ensure that all 50,000 DV Lottery Green cards will be issued.
How does the US Green Card Lottery work?
The Department of State receives Green Card Lottery applications during the month of October. These application are sorted by geographical regions. All applications are closely scrutinized for the qualifying criteria. All those not meeting the qualifying criteria are rejected.
How do you qualify for the Green Card Lottery?
- Must be a native of a qualifying country. All countries are eligible to participate in the Diversity Visa Green Card Lottery Program EXCEPT:

- The applicant must also possess either a U.S. High School diploma or a have the equivalent of U.S. high school diploma or;
- If you are unable to satisfy the educational criteria you must possess at least 2 years of work experience in the last five years. Please note that this must be an occupation that requires at least two years of training or experience.
